1) Israel if you're Jewish. While there are a few anti trans buffoons on the far right, they aren't as prevalent as general anti Muslims. So even the right is friendlier than in America. Plus Jewish values. 2) (surprisingly) some parts of west/Central Europe. Yeah, some "far right" parties gained, but the "center right" (not really conservative by US standards) held on or coalitioned.

I think my favorite thing about animated trek is how all the character models look in terms of how Janeway is now. The now of my nit picks for Star Trek is when the have to age a character up with makeup, they make them look like they’ve aged 30 years instead of just 10 or 15. Like a full head of gray hair and just wrinkles everywhere and she’s supposed so be like only in her early or mid 50s.

Just watched the trek culture ups and downs and they used a picture of Erin Mcdonald that has Jessie next to her. I hope this was a deliberate nod to these reviews.

I actually DO buy what was done to Picard, at least...oh God, not Threshold lol Like the idea they genetically engineer their victims makes sense. That explaining him hearing them makes sense. Them doing that to him specifically makes sense, that they’d think of that as a backup possibility. The Borg should be way smarter than most anything they’re encountering…unless they’re not….though why not EVERY victim? It makes more sense to me than the Queen, an idea I’m STILL not entirely on board with 28 years later (even if it worked well in Voyager! And…I’m okay with it, kinda don’t love it) What doesn’t make sense is that they wouldn’t have caught the alteration done to him specifically, or any victims. It seems like he would have been SO carefully scrutinized! Is it really plausible they’d have missed it? Also, I get that we’re reusing sets from much older ships… but I feel like the nostalgia (which I’m not a huge fan of) is misfiring through S3. Like all the connections to…the earlier Federation ships. And why do the ships seem so much less advanced? In how they look AND function? Why do they seem to have no phasers at least through E9? Why do the hand phasers seem so lame? Worf and only Worf has an “old” phaser which looks cooler and actually WORKS. It’s WEIRD. Like I keep enjoying aspects of this a LOT, while being annoyed by other things. (And I’m constantly like “oh no. I’m being one of THOSE fans lol) Seeing the D…okay, I’ll admit, that’s cool as hell. (Honestly, is there no one else on this station? Why didn’t they take Voyager too?) Still slightly annoyed by modern Trek’s transporters being faster…even at the start of Discovery. For me, S1 was by far the best, this by far the worst, and it just doesn’t live up to Discovery 1-4 nor Strange New Worlds S1 (what I’ve watched so far). I still love it! I’m annoyed at myself for quibbling constantly. But Discovery to me feels like a way more valid continuation than this does. It’s quite possibly my favorite Trek. This is too Movie Trek versus show trek, though it would be one of the better movies, and Amanda wa amazing even as I abhor the “bad guy with a weird ship” Movie Trek trope she comes out of. I hate Khan and the 52 billion times they try to replicate that, though I do really like her a LOT despite my hatred of the trope and how un-Star Trek-y it is. Honestly I really WASN’T feeling like the TNG characters were all that spot on in some of their interactions (like Worf with Troy). I like Data though! Killing him was moronic, and I mentally excise that film from cannon. But his combination of Data and Lore works for me, even if the way we got here is laaaaame. I love Enterprise too! I hate that it was canceled 😕 I didn’t know the F was from the MMO! I’m glad I didn’t see the trailer, though unfortunately I knew about the I want to read New Frontiers!!! Yeah, the idea of this being ALL the fleet…it’s not IMO lol Ro was well handled at least, Shelby…that was lame. Now if it cut off and we find out she got out of it, THAT would be okay. I liked Shaw too, and that was pretty darned well done with Seven. I’ve LOVED that we’ve had her on this (and she finally gets good outfits on Picard!) The D is the best looking vehicle ever made. Yeah, Worf and Data’s comments were great. And yeah, I’m the whole time “going “this is nostalgia nonsense”, but dang it, that ship! I was a BIT wondering about Majel Barret’s voice, though she’s the best computer voice ever, and her son is involved with this, and I’m guessing she’d be okay with it, hopefully, but… I THOUGHT I was surprisingly fine with other computer voices, until hearing her again!

I'm so glad to see Wil Wheaton get to come back as Wesley Crusher. I've read many of his blog posts, listened to his audiobook, and consumed other media he's put out where he's talked at length about the fraught relationship he had with the character for so long, then came to embrace and love Wes, regretting his decision to leave Next Gen. It really feels like he's been given a second chance to truly step into the character and complete him. I can only imagine how much of a joy it is for him, and I genuinely hope it IS a joy for him. I hope he gets to do more with Wes. I hope he gets to be the official ambassador for Star Trek (like how Charles Martinet is the Mario Ambassador for Nintendo). He has taken such a long, circuitous path from Wes only to finally come back to this him, after being separated from him for so long where he could get some distance and really come to embrace him. I wish I could have been in the room when he was offered the role. I want to believe he either squealed with glee or broke down sobbing in joy and gratitude. He deserves to have a healthy, kind, joyous relationship with the character and the greater universe he once belonged to... and is an important part of once again. I'm excited to see where this goes.

After hearing good things about Prodigy I checked it out - and what I got was an opportunity to use "cringe" in the vernacular for the first time. It's like the cut scenes from a bad video game aimed at kids (and made by adults who obviously have no respect for them) have been stitched together.

They're nailing it and so are you in terms of why it's so good. Never expected this to be right up there with my favorite, best Trek, plus pushing ahead and above in its own ways. I so wish that we could save Lower Decks. Imagine a crossover episode between this and that!

Hey! I caught up! I'll rank Prodigy season 2 above Discovery season 5, and I did enjoy that one as well. Prodigy is so good it amazes me Parimount canceled the series. And my goodness, continuing Wesley's story from TNG! Amazing. What a ride this is.

They turned Wesley into The Doctor and I'm here for it! The writers are doing what Star Trek Online s doing, taking disparate parts of the continuity and tying them together in a way that enhanced the lore. They are doing the work of the Prophets.

I agree with the binge model issues. I think it is fine when a show is new but once it has been established, people look forward to it and want to talk about it, but not everyone has the time to binge an entire season, or even half a season. My own preference would be to release two episodes each week, enough to satiate but not get overwhelmed and can be talked about without rushing to binge and avoid spoilers.

Wesley was a great call back, but we also get some star trek tos call back to the episode assignment earth 🌎 this is a fantastic star trek show, hopefully we'll get at least one more season

Went back in the closet in 2019, just been tidying it up and making it more comfortable lately. Don't think I'll be leaving it any time soon, unfortunately. Even the most "liberal" countries won't take in someone who has had epilepsy since birth, so I'm stuck here.

I think Sol realized it was Mae by how she treated PIP, like a tool. Osha always treated the droid like a friend.

I appreciated how Qimir (aka Darth Jason) tells Osha she can swim to the ship and leave---he gives her the choice to stay or go. The Jedi otoh, break down your door and say we're taking your kids because we know what's best for them. I loved that juxtaposition.

Have just finished watching Episode 12 and about half way through I'm saying to myself "this is some of the best Star Trek ever". It's just fabulous. I love the writing and characters and of course the graphics are truly exceptional. Thanks so much for a great review, as per usual. Such a shame you don't have enough time to go into more detail and I agree it would be better if we couldn't binge watch. It's very difficult not to though as it's so great. Cheers. Love you Jessie.

In order to explore the Jedi/Sith ideology more deeply, they'd probably have to Mind Meld with George Lucas himself. People can challenge Jedi practices, like the recruitment and endangerment of children, but it ultimately will not alter our understanding of the Jedi.

I am getting a strong feeling of them having made a 6-episode show and Disney+ having sheduled an 8-episode show.

I really enjoyed this episode, I was very invested in Osha's interactions with Qimir as well as Mae faking being Osha with Sol. Glad that didn't drag out too long. While there are certainly issues keeping this from being as good as Andor, it's much more engaging that Ahsoka was, and that is coming from someone who did follow all of Rebels so knew who all these characters were and how they had changed.

The show does so many cool things with showing Jedi as religious space cops and a look at accessing the force in other ways. But the show is kinda meh on getting plot across.

This should have been four 45min episodes. They are draaaaagggiiinnnggg this out. Even the worst of the films had better pacing. I also find the acting of the sisters is terribly pedestrian. I still don't care about either of them. Oh well, thanks for reviewing and discussing this. I enjoy them. But I'd enjoy it more if the material was better. 😢
